A North Indian household dish, which tastes delicious with both rice and roti (Indian Bread).
Ingredients
- 1 tsp. Cumin Seeds (Jeera)
- 1 Onion, chopped
- 1 tsp. Ginger Paste
- 1 Green Chilli, fine chopped
- 1 tsp. Garlic Paste
- 2 Tomatoes, fine chopped
- ½ tsp. Red Chilli powder
- ½ tsp. Garam Masala Powder
- 1 cup Boiled Fresh Green Peas
- 1½ cups Potatoes, boiled, peeled and cut into cubes
- 1 tbs. Oil/Ghee
- Salt to taste
Preparations

- Heat the pan on a medium heat. When hot, add oil/ghee, cumin seeds and dry roast until light brown.
- Reduce heat between low to medium.
- Add the onions and cook until light brown while stirring continuously.
- Stir in the ginger paste, chopped green chillies and garlic paste, and sauté until cooked.
- Add tomatoes and give it a good mix. Cover the pan with a lid and reduce the heat to low and simmer till the tomatoes are cooked.
- Add the dry masalas and mix well.
- Add peas and potatoes and stir.
- Stir in the water slowly and season with salt. Simmer with lid on till the gravy thickens.
- Serve hot, garnished with coriander and lemon.
Cooking tip
Stirring should be done properly over a low flame.
